“Biodiesel: Fueling a Greener Future” explores the emerging movement towards biodiesel fuel in the Northwest. Biodiesel is a non-petroleum-based fuel that can be used in any diesel engine. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, biodiesel “produces fewer polluting emissions, supplies of it can be renewed indefinitely, and because feedstock materials can be grown domestically, use of it can help bolster the U.S. economy while lessening our dependence on foreign petroleum products.” The film shows how you can produce your own biodiesel at home costing under a dollar gallon. In 2006, the National Biodiesel Board reported that 250 million gallons of biodiesel were sold in the U.S. That number has doubled in the last year.
